II. LESSON
INTRODUCTION: We have established:
1. That our God, Elohim, is a Godhead, which means He exists in three distinct Personalities, all of whom were active in the Creation week.
2. Our ETERNAL God started the clock of time for HIS cosmos.
3. Then He [Son] created Space [heaven] as a place to put HIS cosmos
4. Then He [Son] created Elements [earth] in suspension / solution in sphere water
5. Next He [HS] interjected Energy: that which in the U. could neither be created nor destroyed, yet necessary for the operating cosmos.
6. The introduction of Light is necessary for life forms--- FIRST DAY
7. The Firmament prepared Spaces to receive God’s created objects in specialized places in U. in prescribed special planes. ---SECOND DAY
A. Gen 1:9-10 “God said, let the waters under the heaven be GATHERED TOGETHER unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the GATHERING TOGETHER of the waters He called the seas: and God saw that it was good”.
-Gathered [H = kawvah] to bind together, to collect
B. This fiat displays God’s SUSTAINING GRACE. We see HIS ability to ‘pull all things together’. [i.e.: orbits of stars, galaxies, Universe, heating of stars]
C. What is it that God has created in this passage? We know certain things have transpired:
1. The great sphere of water in which the elements or building blocks of creation had been stockpiled, are in suspension or solution.
2. Into which enormous amounts of Energy had been injected by God the Spirit, God the Energizer,
3. This energy was at work so that SOME OF THE ELEMENTS of this sphere of primordial soup [of elements in solution or suspension] have congealed in such a way that the atomic structure of Atoms has agglutinated into an ‘earth’ still covered with water. The same ‘soup’ will be used for everything.
Dr. Morris suggests that: the term [sunistemi] translated: “earth standing out of water” [KJV]. Or “earth was formed out of water” [NIV] conveys this idea of ‘congealing’ [II Peter 3:5]. I suspect that God could have used GRAVITY to make that happen for we know that Gravity is now holding the earth in the shape of a sphere. In fact, scientists today believe gravity causes all celestial bodies to remain in their orbit. They cannot explain gravity, but we believe that God ‘created’ IT as He has revealed, in the Creation Account. Even so, now the U. is a Gravitational System as God sustains the ‘Natural Laws’.
I suspect that as God congealed the Earth and then caused it to appear from the water, so also God congealed the Stars and placed them in their firmament or plane, where God keeps them rotating and orbiting in their plane through Gravity.
As we continue the Biblical narrative, it is time for dry land to appear and those waters to gather into various bodies called seas. Peter, under the inspiration of the HS was able to write: “…by God’s word… the earth was formed out of water and by water” [II P 3:5]. God asked Job, “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it [earth v.1] burst forth from the WOMB” [Job 38:8]. The Psalmist [24:2] said, “the earth is established [made] ‘upon or out of’ the water and established it upon the waters.”
4. Just how God did that could easily happen by enacting the force of GRAVITY. By enacting gravity, the water would seek its own level by draining into the lower levels of the earth’s surface. Thus the dry land would appear, and the waters would have gathered into their ‘spaces’ called seas or oceans. Other water became “fountains of the great deep [Gen 7:11].
5. NOTE, the term ‘earth’, which is made up of ‘matter’ = the ‘elements’, as the earlier translation, now the term assumes its well known concept of earth, terra firma in its Solar Bubble. God is making a place to be inhabited. An engineering marvel.
6. Is it not interesting that the impeccable Scriptural order of events taking place is for: 1. the congealing of the elements into the Earth, 2. the water to gather and then, 3. the dry land appears? Gravity would make this all happen in that order. It is also noteworthy that the exact amount of the water’s surface is critical to our climate. [Is 40:12; Ps 104;6-10]
7. In lesson 11 we study God’s creating the celestial bodies out of the same primordial soup, & placed them in our observable Universe even though secular scientists teach that each of these Planets, Stars etc. were all formed by Gravity. Gravity is said to be ‘responsible for’ the formation of the U. The Biblical Creationist believes God formed them & Gravity maintains.
D. MEN OF SCIENCE have struggled to explain how Gravity works. They know what it does. They observe that Mass attracts other Mass, and by observing the movement of certain masses; they postulate another mass must be nearby, and go looking for it. They still cannot decipher how it does it. This is called microlensing or bending of light as passes another body.
1. The Hebrew [kavah] conveys the idea of ‘binding together’. It certainly describes what Gravity does. It attracts. It binds together. It never repulses.
a. John illustrates this principle: “…when I [Christ] am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself” [12:32] “no one can come to me unless the Father draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day” [6:44]
b. Amazing how God operates consistently.
2. Scientists have discovered Four Fundamental Forces:
a. Gravitational Force = operates in galactic space. It’s constant = G=
6.67 x 10-11 N m2/kg2
b. Strong Nuclear Force = binds particles in nucleus [P + N both made up of Quarks operating in Nuclear Space in femtometers [10−15 meters]
c. Electromagnetic Force = which binds electrons in cloud to nucleus
d. Weak Nuclear Force = radioactive decay of certain elements
3. The Strong Nuclear Force DESCRIBES what happens within the structure of the Atomic Nucleus where the ‘binding force’ within the Tripartite Particles [quarks] which make up the Protons and Neutrons [uud + ddu]. Another ‘binding force’ is the Electromagnetic Force which ’binds the Electrons in the Atom’s ‘cloud’ to the Nucleus. The Strong Nuclear Force within ‘atomic space’ is far stronger than that of Gravity, which operates in much larger Galactic Space. This GS can only be observed with telescope and the Atomic Space can only be observed with an Atomic Microscope.
4. Gravity is defined as all physical bodies with mass attract one another.
a. Newton expressed
gravitation as: the product of the two masses and inversely
proportional
to the square of the distance
between them. Newton recognized that the law of universal
gravitation does not explain all phenomenon.

b. Einstein sought to further explain that Gravitation is due to ‘curved space-time continuum’, not a force between two bodies. This is ‘general relativity’… “geometric theory of gravitation” or Quantum Gravity.
[G= gravitational constant ; v = cosmological constant; gmv= metric temar; c= speed light; Tmv= stress-energy tensor]
c. Neither theory fully explains the phenomenon nor reconciles!
d. The Law of Gravity, is the one law to which most other laws conform and is not affected by the law of entropy = which indicates all things are running down. I say that GOD is sustaining it.
e. Gravity is the dominate force at macroscopic scale, causing the ‘formation’?, shape and trajectory of planetary bodies. It ‘causes’ [sustains] the earth and other planets to orbit the sun. The moon to orbit the earth and tides of waters. Gravity accounts for all motion of celestial bodies.
f. It causes the extreme heating of the interior of stars by fusion of atoms
g. It is the only force acting on all particles with mass.
h. It has infinite range.
i. It cannot be absorbed, transformed or shielded against.
j. Gravitational Lensing suggests light is bent when passing by mass
k. Gravitational time dilation = extreme speed slows passage of time
l. Gravitational Wave = hypothetical result of BB cosmic inflation
m. Gravitational Collapse = method of stars forming
n. Gravitational Singularity = spacetime singularity = original state before BB.
o. Gravitational Radiation = not observed, postulated to be energy
p. Gravitational Field = force attracts mass to the core
q. It appears to be one of God’s servants of choice.
r. One final observation… Scientists continue to search for a “Theory of Everything” [ToE]. Some explanation for the phenomena of the U. “Something: final, ultimate, master, hypothetical, single, all encompassing, coherent, theoretical framework, fully explaining, linking together all physical aspects of the U” [Wikipedia]. “IT IS THE MAJOR UNSOLVED PROBLEM IN PHYSICS”.
Note 1. Classical Mechanics seem to explain how the galactic U. operates under the influence of Gravity. However, it did not explain the functioning of the subatomic world; therefore, Quantum Mechanics was developed to seek to address the activity of the Atom and its Particles. In this theory, Gravity is explained as a Particle called a Graviton. Light is a Photon. Superstring Theory postulates that each of the PARTICLES in the SUBAtomic WORLD can best be explained as a STRING VIBRATING. Thus, the basic building block of nature was once the indivisible Atom. Then it became the Proton, Neutron and Electron. Then the electron and Quarks. Now just Strings. That is what they want to call the Theory of Everything [ToE]
NOTE 2: Astrophysicists seem to have calculated that the U. is made up only 5% baryonic or ordinary matter; therefore they postulate [but have not found what they call Dark Matter [DM] at 27% and Dark Energy [DE] at 68%. DM is thought to be made up of some unknown Particle… for which they are searching. Whatever theories proposed also demand alteration of the Theory of Gravity. DM is said to be attracting the U. while DE is said to be accelerating or expanding the U, with Galaxies racing away from earth. [I suggest the galaxies are just where God put them in their ‘firmament’.]
E. CONCLUSION: I suggest it is not by chance that God enacted Gravity at this juncture before He created the celestial bodies. Not only could HE use gravity to corral the seas, but use it to: 1. sustain all the celestial objects to come, 2. hold them in the orbits in their prepared ‘planes’. What an astounding Architect whose plans the Son meticulously follows to bring about our cosmos. There are limitless tools available to HIM.
- In the ‘what it’s worth category’, enacting gravity this late in the scheme of things has its detractors, but I would like to remind them, that even the evolutionists suggest that in the early big bang theory there was no gravity. It took 100 million years for the first stars to gather & shine.
- I further conclude, I am not amazed that Scientists have not been able to unravel what causes GRAVITY, although they can observe what it does. Light is such a magnificent display of God’s endless energy, but Gravity is the lynch pin that holds the world all together. Perhaps the ‘graviton particle’, [which they haven’t been able to find either] is ‘the mediator’, however: it is a ‘particle’ which is sub-atomic, where Gravity has negligible effect but the Strong Nuclear Force is fully functional with amazing stored energy as released in Fusion in the sun.
-The elusive ‘God particle’ [the Higgs Boson] for which scientists have spent billions searching [& they think they have now observed] is thought to be the lynch pin in the sub-atomic particle world. Thus, two lynch pins: GRAVITY for the Galactic World & the Higgs Boson for the Particle of the Sub-Atomic World.
-NOTE 1: One scholar wrote: Newton’s theory of gravity failed to explain the orbit of Mars. Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity has its limitations; therefore, there must be MORE TO GRAVITY THAN BOTH KNEW! [Says it all!]
-NOTE 2: It would be no problem for God to “roll up the heavens as a scroll” as suggested by Isaiah the Prophet [43:4] & spoken of by John in the Revelation 6:14. Just turn off Gravity and it all goes away. POOF!
- Numerous Scripture references suggest the function of Gravity:
Job 38:10 “fixed limits”; Is 40:12 “held dust of earth in basket”; 40:22 “circle of earth”; Job 26:7 “He spreads out the northern skies over empty space and He suspends the earth over nothing” Job 26:7.
-NOTE 3: God’s creation is eternal [Ps 148:6]. There will be a “new Heaven and Earth” [Is 65:17; Is 66:22; II P 3:13; Rev 21:1,4], which means a radical renovation, “delivered from the load of sin [Rom 8:21; II P 3:10]
-NOTE 4: I just saw advertised a new computer game called, “gravity simulator” You can add the stars, change the parameters and watch what happens. Amazing and nice experiment, but of course seeks to prove Evolutionary Faith
-NOTE 5: Concerning the Planet Earth Symbol--- Each of the planet symbols is supposed to represent some aspect of that planet. Wikipedia suggests it may be a symbol from the Catholic Church’s ‘Globis Cruciger, symbol of authority.
Interesting, the world just cannot get rid of the cross.
NOTE 6: The WEB site for Universe Today 5/12/17 Evan Gough made this comment, “4.4 billion years ago, earth was a barren, mountainous place, almost everything was under water. Only a handful of islands poked above the surface”. The age of the Universe is said to be 13.8 billion years.
Comment. I thought it was interesting that writers are still saying that earth had a watery beginning. I agree, but with a totally different twist… God did the creating, not that water came in from comets and earth appeared by accumulating debris.
