2. THE SECOND CREATION ACOUNT
GEN. 2;4-25 [EMPHASIS; The Gardner]
5/19/20 6/16/20
1.V.4 This is the account [generations] of the heavens and earth when they were created [bara], in the day of making [Asha] of heavens and earth by Lord [Jehovah] God [Elohim].
2.v.5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for Lord God had not sent rain on the earth, and there was no man to work the ground, v.6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground—
3.v.7 the Lord God formed [yatsar] the man from the dust of ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
4.v.8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden [gar] in the east, in Eden; there He put the man He had formed .
5.v.9 And the Lord God made [yatzar] all kind of trees grow [H. spring] out of the ground---trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
6.v.10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from their it was separated into four headwaters. V.11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. V.12 [The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.] v.13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the land of Cush. V.14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates
7.v.15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
8.v.16 And the Lord God commanded the man. “You are free to eat of any tree in the Garden; v.17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die [dying you will die]
9.v.18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper [azer] suitable [neged] 617 BDB] for him.
10.V,19 Now the Lord God had formed [yitzer] all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the field. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. v.20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and ail the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. V.21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. V.22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man , and He brought her to the man.
11.v.23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man”. [Woman is made of Adam’s flesh, while he was made from dirt. Both were from pre made materials.]
12.v.24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
13.v.25 The man and his wife were both naked and they felt no shame.
Now let us consider the changes between chapter1 & 2. There are no discrepancies!
1. Why are there two a/cs? They are written in two different styles or purposes. The primary a/c is clearly written to include the genesis of the whole cosmos. As an architect would approach the project, for a builder to follow.
2. The second a/c zeroes in on man. His genesis, environment & responsibilities..
3. In the second a/c two words are used for the actual creation; bara is used in both, indicating that creation was ex nihilo; but in the second ‘asha’ is added translated “the day of making”, indicating that long periods are not to be intended.
4. The use of different words for God. In the first a/c Elohim is used indicating the plurality of the Godhead which is manifested in the creating of man. All three are mentioned in the statement, ‘let US CREATE MAN’
5. In the second a/c consistently Jehovah is added to Elohim as a compound word: Lord God. The tetragrammaton [yodh, he, waw, he]. The Jews do not pronounce Jehovah, but use Adonai. The Hebrew word is translated in KJ as LORD, ALL CAPS. The word comes from the verb ‘to be’ = Self Existent One. [therefore, the compound means = “SELFEXISTENT GODHEAD”, OR “ETERNAL GODHEAD”.
6. Is it not significant that both a/cs indicate that the creations after verse one are made from the matter first created? Everything else is not created ex nihilo as seen in “let be”. [this word in H. ‘yahi’ =
7. Now to the creation a/cs of woman in the second a/c it is recoded in v.18 “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make [yatzer] a helper suitable for him.” {Now what does that mean? BDB. dictionary indicates she is to be “equal & sufficient} [Now man had all the beasts & birds, which he named, but they were not deemed to be a “helper suitable” v.18]. {This statement does a lot of damage to the evolutionist’s theory, does it not?
8. V.21 “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping , He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up with flesh.
9. V.22 “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib He had taken out of the man, and He brought her to the man.
10. V.23 The man said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man. [Not made of dust as man was]
11. Ch. 1:26 Then God said, “Let US make man in OUR image, in OUR LIKENESS, ……
12. Ch. 1:27 So God created man in HIS OWN IMAGE, IN THE IMAGE OF God He created THEM
13. We need to understand that in Ch 1, #11 & 12 the Architect is speaking for the Godhead that the primeval couple is to be created and they are to rule over all moving things.
14. In Ch. 2 He starts out by stating that this is what the Craftsman had done v.1. In v.2 God was finished & resting.
15. In v.4 This ch. Begins by stating again that H. & E. were CREATED. They did not EVOLVE. Now He zeroes in on just how man came on the scene & what he is to do. Note, no vegetation is yet in place because of two things missing. There was no rain to water the vegs, and second there was no gardener to till it. So Lord God now prepares a gardener.
16. V.7 Man is formed from the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life. Is it not interesting that the material from which man is made is now revealed; the dust of the ground. We did not know that from ch.1. We also discover that the woman is uniquely made from a different material.
17. Important to be disciplined not to isogete what we surmised ch.1 was revealing about two a/cs.
18. Note: It is not required to make the two a/cs follow the same time sequence
